VPIP

Also: voluntarily put money in pot, VP$IP

Voluntarily Put money In Pot: the percentage of hands a player enters by calling or raising (not counting the blinds). It is the quickest measure of how loose or tight someone is.

Example. A player with 45% VPIP is playing almost half of all hands — far too many.

Full-ring regulars run around 15–22% VPIP, six-max regulars 22–28%, and recreational players anything from 35% upward. Read together with PFR it tells you the style: a big gap between VPIP and PFR means a passive caller, a small gap an aggressive player.
