WPT Global in Chile — what a Chilean player should know first
Poker is entertainment and a game of skill, not a source of income. Play only with money you can afford to lose, and never borrow to play.
Chile is one of the markets where the honest answer about an offshore poker room is more complicated than a bonus banner suggests. Chile licenses and supervises land-based casinos closely — twenty-two licensed houses, each with a named operating company on the regulator's own register — but it has no licensing regime for online games of chance at all. That is the gap a Chilean player is stepping into, and it is worth understanding before signing up anywhere, WPT Global included.

Is online poker legal in Chile?
This is general information, not legal advice, and anyone who needs certainty should take Chilean advice.
Chile's land-based casinos run under Ley N° 19.995 and are supervised by the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego, which maintains a public register naming each house's operating company and general manager. Online games of chance are not inside that framework. The position the Superintendencia and the consumer agency SERNAC have stated publicly is that online games of chance are not regulated in Chile and are illegal in character, and that the platforms offering them operate outside the law. Their stated concern is not the player's conduct but the player's exposure: an unregulated platform cannot be supervised or sanctioned, which in their words means no transparency over how results are generated, no responsible-gambling policy, and no protection for self-excluded people or for children. They also warned that prizes may go unpaid and promised conditions unmet, and advised consumers not to contract these services — and above all not to borrow money to access them.
That statement is the regulator's own, and we found nothing on a primary page replacing it when we read the official sources on 21 October 2026.
The law that would change this is not law yet
A bill to regulate online betting platforms is moving through Congress. The Chamber of Deputies approved it in December 2023; the Senate approved it in general, by 27 votes to 3 with 5 abstentions, and sent it to the joint Economy and Finance committees for detailed review in its second constitutional stage. As described by the Ministry of Finance, it would require operators to hold an administrative authorisation, put the sector under the Superintendencia — renamed the Superintendencia de Casinos, Apuestas y Juegos de Azar — and apply VAT plus a specific tax of 20%, with a further percentage point earmarked for responsible-gambling programmes and an annual levy of 2% of gross sports-betting revenue to fund sport. It would also regulate advertising and promotion, with explicit protections for children and adolescents, and would set a National Responsible Betting Policy across the whole industry. Platforms that had operated illegally in Chile would be barred from applying for twelve months after stopping, and would owe a one-off substitute tax.
None of that is in force. Until it is, a Chilean player on an offshore site has no Chilean regulator to complain to.
Is Chile an excluded territory for WPT Global?
WPT Global publishes its Excluded Territories list in its own terms and conditions. We read that list on 21 October 2026: Chile does not appear in it. Several of its neighbours and major markets do — Venezuela, Costa Rica, Curaçao, the United States, Australia, India, Japan, and much of western Europe among them — so the absence is not an accident of a short list.
Two cautions belong with that, and we would rather state them than let the reader assume. First, WPT Global describes the list as not exhaustive and reserves the right to amend it, and the same clause also excludes further categories of jurisdiction beyond the named ones, so absence from the list is not the same as a written confirmation that Chile is served. Second, an operator's own territory list is a commercial and compliance decision by that operator; it is not a statement about Chilean law, and it does not fill the regulatory gap described above.
The terms set the minimum age at 18, or the legal age for gaming under the applicable law where the player is, whichever is higher.
Signing up, and what the welcome offer actually does
Expect the standard sequence: an account with your real legal name, an email and a password, then identity verification before a withdrawal rather than before the first hand. Give the name that matches your identity document — a mismatch discovered at withdrawal is the most common way a player's money gets stuck.
On bonuses, the mechanic matters more than the headline. A poker welcome offer of this kind does not land in your balance as cash. It releases in stages as you generate rake, and only the released portion is money you can actually withdraw. A player who reads the headline figure as a deposit match has misread it. Read the offer's own terms for the release rate and any expiry window before depositing against it.
Live poker in Chile is a separate question
If you are travelling rather than playing online, do not read a Chilean casino licence as a poker guarantee. Chilean law obliges every licensed house to offer roulette, card games, dice, bingo and slot machines, but an operator can satisfy the card-game obligation with dealer-banked table games. The Dreams group, for instance, teaches Draw Poker as one of its Mesas de Juego alongside Black Jack, roulette and craps — a dealer-banked game, not players competing against one another. Our Chilean venue pages say, house by house, what we were able to verify on a primary page and what we were not.
If gambling has stopped being entertainment, the Superintendencia runs a self-exclusion system for Chile's licensed casinos at autoexclusion.scj.gob.cl.

Frequently asked questions
Is Chile on WPT Global's excluded territories list?
No. We read the Excluded Territories clause in WPT Global's own terms on 21 October 2026 and Chile does not appear. The operator describes the list as non-exhaustive and amendable, so that is not the same as written confirmation that Chile is served.
Is online poker regulated in Chile?
No. Chile licenses land-based casinos under Ley N° 19.995 but has no licensing regime for online games of chance. The Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego and SERNAC have stated publicly that online games of chance are unregulated in Chile and illegal in character. This is general information, not legal advice.
Will that change?
A bill to regulate online betting platforms is in its second constitutional stage in the Senate, having been approved in general by 27 votes to 3. It would license operators, put them under a renamed Superintendencia and apply VAT plus a 20% specific tax. It is not law yet.
What is the minimum age?
WPT Global's terms set it at 18, or the legal gaming age under the applicable law where the player is, whichever is higher.
How does the welcome offer pay out?
In stages, as rake is generated. Only the released portion can be withdrawn — it is not a cash deposit match. Read the offer's own terms for the release rate and any expiry.
Do Chilean casinos spread real poker?
Not necessarily. The obligation on licensed houses is to offer card games, which can be met with dealer-banked variants such as the Dreams group's Draw Poker. Check the individual house before travelling.
