Poker in Arizona: the biggest room in the state, and the rules
Arizona's live poker is tribal poker. Every casino in the state is operated by a federally recognised tribe under a compact with Arizona, and the largest poker room among them — Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, on Salt River Pima-Maricopa land — is one of the biggest in the United States at 69 tables. For a state with no commercial casinos, that is a remarkable concentration of poker in one building.

Poker rooms & casinos in Arizona
All venuesTalking Stick, and the scale of it
Talking Stick Resort advertises 69 poker tables, states that this makes it the largest room in Arizona and larger than any room in Las Vegas, and backs the claim with volume: more than 600 tournaments a year and, by its own account, over $1.2 million paid out of its house promotional fund in the previous year. Two bad beat jackpots run in parallel, one for Texas Hold'em and one for Omaha and stud. A room that size means a Hold'em game at almost any hour and genuine choice of stake, which is rare outside Las Vegas and southern California.
How poker is regulated here
Tribal gaming in Arizona runs under the Arizona tribal-state gaming compacts and is overseen on the state side by the Arizona Department of Gaming, with each tribe's own gaming office regulating its property. The 2021 amended compacts expanded the games tribes may offer and brought licensed event wagering to the state. Social and home poker games sit outside that framework and are constrained by state law; the licensed rooms are the tribal casinos.
Online poker
Arizona has not licensed online poker. The 2021 gaming expansion authorised event wagering and fantasy sports, not online card rooms, so there is no Arizona-licensed site at which to play real-money poker online.
Practical notes
Bad beat jackpot figures and tournament calendars move constantly — the numbers on our Talking Stick page are the ones the resort published on the day we read them, and the room itself tells players to check for live updates. Where an operator publishes no table count or buy-in, we leave it blank rather than estimate.
This page is general information about where poker is played and how it is regulated, not legal advice.
