The 2024 WSOP Pot Limit Omaha Championship
On 26 June 2024 Bowers finished 3rd in the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship, 8-handed, at the 55th World Series of Poker, for $615,251. It is the deepest run of his career in the PLO event that the specialists treat as their own world championship, and it pushed his lifetime total past the million mark.
That summer was the best of his career. Five weeks later he won the $380 Mini Mega Millions VI at the Legends of Poker in Bell Gardens for $184,395, and in June he had taken a $720 Pot Limit Omaha Mystery Bounty at the Aria Poker Classic for $48,677. He added a runner-up finish in a $3,000 PLO event on the PokerGO Tour's PLO Series in October.
Newcastle, and the Genting Poker Series
Bowers lives in Backworth, a few miles from Newcastle, and his breakthrough came at the Genting club there. In February 2017 he finished 2nd in the £200 Genting Poker Series Newcastle Leg 2 Main Event for £9,600. A year later, on 1 February 2018, he won Leg 1 of the same series at the same venue for £12,460. The GPS is Genting's UK-wide tour — low buy-ins, large regional fields, legs at the operator's own casinos — and it is where a large number of British tournament players first put a title on their record.
His Genting results run far beyond those two: he has cashed repeatedly in the recurring tournaments at Genting's Sheffield club, which is the unglamorous volume that a regional UK schedule actually consists of.
A record built on volume
132 cashes is a lot of tournaments, and the spread tells you how the career was financed: dozens of small British results in the 2010s, then a move towards American PLO fields and high rollers once the bankroll allowed it. He sits 2,519th on the all-time money list and 145th among English players. His best rank was 2,088th, which is close to current — unlike older players on these lists, Bowers is still climbing.
