GGPoker Mexico: how Mexican players join and what the law says

GGPoker accepts Mexican players on its international site. Mexico's gaming law dates from 1947 and online play reaches players as an annex to land-based permits, so here is what that means for you before you sign up — including which company and which regulator actually stand behind the site.

Is GGPoker legal in Mexico?

Gambling in Mexico runs under the Ley Federal de Juegos y Sorteos of 1947, administered by SEGOB's Dirección General de Juegos y Sorteos. There is no standalone online licence: under Article 85 of the 2004 regulation, an establishment that already holds a permit may take bets online through a SEGOB-approved system, which is how online brands generally reach Mexican players. Which company you are signing up with

Since Mexico issues no standalone online licence, the licence that does apply is worth knowing. The international ggpoker.com platform is operated by GG International Limited, incorporated in the Isle of Man, registered office The Hubb, Queen Victoria House, Victoria Street, Douglas, IM1 2LF, licensed and regulated by the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission under a licence issued under the Online Gambling Regulations Act 2001 on 15 October 2020. In practice that means a Mexican player's formal recourse runs through an Isle of Man licensee rather than through SEGOB, which has not licensed the international site. Note also that the GG group operates different companies in different markets — Germany's ggpoker.de is NSUS Malta Limited on the German whitelist, and there are separately licensed GG brands for the Netherlands, Ontario, the United Kingdom and Romania. The brand travels; the licence does not.
