Poker in Singapore: Marina Bay Sands, Resorts World Sentosa and the law on online play

Singapore is the most tightly regulated gambling market in Asia, and one of the few with proper casino poker rooms. Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa both spread poker, and the country is a natural stop for players from Indonesia and Malaysia. Is poker legal in Singapore?

Live poker is legal at the two licensed integrated resorts, Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, regulated by the Gambling Regulatory Authority. Singapore citizens and permanent residents pay an entry levy (a daily or annual casino levy) to enter, foreigners do not, and the minimum age is 21. Social poker at home among friends is permitted under the Gambling Control Act 2022 provided nobody profits from organising it. Online gambling is permitted only through licensed local operators such as Singapore Pools, which do not offer poker; gambling with an unlicensed remote operator is an offence for the player, offshore sites are blocked, and payment providers are required not to process transactions to them. Marina Bay Sands runs a poker room with cash games from moderate stakes and regular tournaments, and Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island has its own room. Both have hosted Asian Poker Tour and other tour events over the years. Buy-ins tend to be higher than in Manila or Macau, and the games attract a mix of expatriates, visiting Indonesians and Malaysians, and locals who pay the levy.
