Playground is warning players it has no online poker site, and that sites using its name are fake
Playground, the Kahnawake card room that hosts Canada's biggest live festivals, is running a notice on its own website telling visitors it does not operate an online gaming site at all, and that any online advertisement or website claiming otherwise is fraudulent. The room asks players to trust only its official site and social media accounts. It is a short message, but it matters: Playground is one of the most recognisable poker brands in Canada, and a room with that much name value and no online product is exactly the kind of target scam operators build fake sites around.
The notice appears as the first thing a visitor sees on playground.ca, ahead of the tournament calendar. Its wording is unambiguous. Playground does not operate an online gaming site; online advertisements or websites claiming otherwise are fraudulent; players should stay safe and rely only on the room's official site and social media pages.
Why a live room would need to say this is worth spelling out. Playground runs the MSPT Canadian Poker Championship and a WSOP Circuit stop, draws fields from across Quebec, Ontario and the northeastern United States, and is physically located on Kahnawake territory, which many players loosely associate with online gambling licensing because the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has licensed online operators for years. A player who knows the Playground name, and who half-remembers that Kahnawake and online poker go together, is a plausible mark for a site that borrows the brand.
The practical advice for players is the same advice that applies to any room whose name is well known offline. Playground's live tournament registration happens at the venue. There is no Playground online cash game, no Playground online tournament series, and no Playground app to deposit into. A site offering any of those is not Playground, whatever it looks like and whatever logo it carries.
Anyone who has already deposited with a site using the Playground name should treat it as a scam rather than a dispute with the card room, since the card room has no account to look up and no cashier to appeal to.
This is general information rather than legal advice, and it reflects what Playground itself published as of 4 October 2026.
