Norway's 2027 poker calendar splits across two countries

Both Norwegian poker championships have now published 2027 dates, and they are a continent apart. The spring Norgesmesterskapet i poker runs 3–14 March at Banco Casino in Bratislava with ten trophy events priced in euros, from a €250 Low Roller Supreme to a €2,000 High Roller Supreme. The autumn Norgesmesterskap i poker, organised by three Norwegian charities and played inside Norway, returns 2–10 October with the venue still to be named.

Norway is the rare poker country with two national championships, and for the first time both 2027 editions are on the board at once.

The spring title is the one that leaves the country. Norgesmesterskapet i poker has published a full eleven-day programme for 3 to 14 March 2027 at Banco Casino, inside the Crowne Plaza on Hodžovo námestie in central Bratislava. Ten events carry an NM title, numbered NM1 to NM10, and every buy-in is quoted in euros with the tournament fee already included: €1,000 for the heads-up bracket, the 8-Game mixed limit and the Main Event, €2,000 for the High Roller Supreme, €500 for the fixed-limit six-max, seniors, ladies and turbo titles, and €250 for the Low Roller Supreme. The Main Event opens with Day 1A on 10 March and Day 1B on 11 March and finishes with a televised final table at 13:00 on Sunday 14 March, from a 100,000 starting stack and 60-minute levels.

The organiser's own account of why the championship is abroad is unusually direct. Its history page traces the early editions through an Oslo club canteen in 2002, a spot under a grandstand in 2003 and a closed-down furniture shop in 2005, then records that by 2006 the event could no longer legally be held in Norway and moved to Grebbestad in Sweden, reaching a real casino for the first time at Casino Cosmopol in 2007. The same page notes that separate autumn championships have been held inside Norway since 2015.

That autumn championship is the other half of the calendar, and its structure explains how live tournament poker happens in a country with no commercial card rooms. It is organised by Gynkreftforeningen, Blodkreftforeningen and Norges Døveforbund in cooperation with Adlers Gate AS, and the organisers carry the Lotteritilsynet mark on their site. The 2026 edition ran at Thon Congress Gardermoen by Oslo Airport, and the front page closed the week by announcing the next one for 2 to 10 October 2027. No venue and no buy-ins have been published for 2027 yet; the 2026 schedule ran from 1,500 to 10,000 Norwegian kroner, against euros in Bratislava.

For a Norwegian player the practical difference is cost and travel rather than prestige, since both weeks hand out national titles. The March programme is the deeper and the dearer of the two; October is the one you can reach by train.

This is general information about publicly announced tournament schedules, not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Norway have two poker championships?

The spring championship left Norway in 2006 — its own history page says it could no longer legally be held there — and has been staged abroad since, reaching Bratislava in 2027. A separate autumn championship, run by Norwegian charities, has been held inside Norway since 2015.

Which one is cheaper to enter?

The Bratislava week runs from €250 to €2,000 per title event. The 2026 Norwegian edition ran from 1,500 to 10,000 kroner; 2027 buy-ins are not published yet.
