Mexico's autumn festival run: MXN 7m in Puebla from Thursday, with the schedule still unpublished
The Palace Series of Poker opens its Calaverita edition in Puebla on 22 October with MXN 7,000,000 guaranteed across five named tournaments, while Guadalajara's Life Poker Championship is already in progress. Neither festival had published a day-by-day schedule when we checked on 20 October, which is the pattern across the Mexican calendar this autumn.
Two Mexican festivals bracket the end of October, and between them they say something about how the country's live calendar is run.
At Casino Palace Puebla, in the Angelopolis complex on the western side of the city, Palace Poker Room opens the Calaverita edition of the Palace Series of Poker on 22 October and runs it to 1 November. It is the tour's third consecutive year in Puebla and carries MXN 7,000,000 guaranteed. Unusually, the room has published how that total divides before publishing anything else: MXN 4,000,000 on the Main Event, MXN 1,000,000 each on the Opener and the High Roller, and MXN 500,000 each on a Mystery Bounty and a Second Chance. Pot-Limit Omaha, Seniors and Ladies tournaments are flagged without figures.
What is missing is the schedule. Two days before the first card, the buy-ins, starting stacks, level lengths, late-registration terms and the dates of the individual tournaments were all still unannounced. A player deciding whether the trip is worth it has the guarantees and nothing else to work with.
The same gap shows in Guadalajara, where Life Poker Room's Life Poker Championship at Casino Life has been running since 19 October and finishes on the 25th. That festival is built the other way round: a single Main Event, MXN 1,000,000 guaranteed, MXN 3,000 to enter with re-entry and a 40,000 starting stack, and no side tournaments at all. Cash games fill the rest of the week, with No-Limit Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha in four-, five- and six-card versions, Bomb Pot and Mata Ases on the menu. Here too the daily programme and the satellite details were still unpublished with the festival in progress.
For context on what the Mexican market can hold when a schedule does get published in full: the World Series of Poker Circuit's stop in the capital, billed as WSOP Circuit – Big Bola Casinos and played at the Barcelo Mexico Santa Fe Hotel from 31 August to 11 September, completed twelve ring events. Its MXN 27,200 Main Event drew 781 entries for a MXN 17,844,288 prize pool, and the MXN 8,000 Mini Main Event drew 1,190.
Still to come this autumn and winter: Twin Lions Casino's 19th anniversary tournament in Guadalajara, MXN 1,000,000 guaranteed on a MXN 4,000 buy-in from 23 to 28 November, and the Nuevo Vallarta Tour at Incanto Casino in Bucerias, Nayarit, announced for 15 to 25 January 2027 with MXN 15,000,000 guaranteed — which the tour calls the largest in its history, and which is the largest figure announced for any Mexican festival on our record. Its schedule, too, has yet to appear.
