A tournament add-on format in which the player who wins a designated hand or pot takes the dealer button, moving position as a prize rather than letting it rotate normally.
Win-the-button is one of the variations the German state casinos bolt onto an otherwise standard freeze-out, alongside Knock-Out and Second Chance. Instead of the button passing clockwise every hand, it is awarded to the winner of a qualifying pot, so position becomes something you can play for directly.
The effect is to reward aggression in marked hands and to stop the button being a purely mechanical advantage. It is more common in recreational and club events than in major tours, where a clean rotation matters for structural integrity.
The Spielbanken Bayern Pokermeisterschaft explicitly permits it, leaving each of the nine casinos to decide which variations to apply to its own ranking tournaments.
