Showdown
The end of a hand when the remaining players reveal their cards and the best hand takes the pot. The last player to bet or raise shows first.
Frequently asked questions
What is showdown in poker?
The point after the final betting round where the remaining players reveal their hands and the best one wins. If everyone else folds earlier, there is no showdown — which is how most pots end.
Who has to show first?
The last aggressor's caller shows first; if the river was checked through, the player in earliest position shows first. In practice dealers often simply ask for hands, and 'cards speak' means the dealer reads whatever is tabled.
What if two players tie?
The pot is split. Suits never break ties in Hold'em or Omaha, so identical five-card hands share the money, with any odd chip usually going to the player in the earliest position. A player who mucks rather than tabling forfeits any claim, even with a winner.
