Probe bet
Also: probe
A bet made out of position on the turn or river after the pre-flop aggressor declined to continuation-bet on the previous street. It 'probes' a range that has shown weakness by checking.
Example. Big blind check-calls pre-flop, checks the flop, button checks back; on the turn the big blind leads out — a probe bet.
When the raiser checks back the flop, their range is capped: they would usually have bet their strongest hands. The out-of-position player can attack that with a probe bet using both value hands and bluffs. Solvers probe frequently on cards that favour the caller's range.
