Merged range

Also: linear range, condensed range

A range of hands that are all of moderate to good strength, with few pure bluffs — the opposite of a polarised range. Merged bets are usually smaller and made for thin value and protection.

Example. Betting a third of the pot on the turn with top pair, middle pair and flush draws is a merged bet.

You merge when the opponent calls too much or when a big bet would fold out everything you beat. Many small bets on flops and turns are merged: top pair, second pair, strong draws and a few weak hands all bet the same size. Understanding whether a bet is merged or polarised tells you which hands to continue with.
