A hand that is not yet made but can become strong if the right card comes: four cards to a flush (a flush draw) or four to a straight (a straight draw). Playing draws well is about the price you are getting versus the odds of hitting.

How do you work out a draw's chances?
Count your outs — the cards that complete the hand — and multiply by four for two cards to come, or by two for one. A nine-out flush draw is therefore roughly 36% to get there from the flop and 18% on the turn. The shortcut is close enough for the table.
Does 'draw' mean something else too?
Yes — in draw poker, such as 2-7 Triple Draw, 'the draw' is the act of discarding and replacing cards. Context makes which one is meant obvious.
