Big blind ante
A tournament format where, instead of every player posting an ante, the player in the big blind posts one large ante for the whole table each hand. Faster to run and now the standard in most live events.
Frequently asked questions
What is a big blind ante?
A format where the player in the big blind posts a single ante for the entire table, rather than every player posting a small one each hand.
Why did big blind antes become standard?
Speed and accuracy. Collecting one ante from one player removes the per-hand bottleneck of chasing antes around the table and the errors that came with it. The total contributed is roughly the same.
