ClubWPT Gold in British Columbia: how the sweepstakes model works
British Columbia has no licensed private online poker, which is why the sweepstakes model matters here — and why it is worth understanding exactly what it is before you sign up.

What a sweepstakes room is
ClubWPT Gold does not sell you chips. It runs on a dual-currency model: a play currency with no value, and a promotional currency that can be redeemed for prizes. You can obtain the promotional currency without buying anything — that free route is what makes the model lawful in jurisdictions that have not licensed real-money online poker.
The games look like poker because they are poker. The legal machinery underneath is closer to a prize draw than to a licensed card room, and that difference is not cosmetic: the consumer protections attached to a licensed gambling operator are not the ones attached to a sweepstakes promotion.
Availability in British Columbia
ClubWPT Gold operates in British Columbia. It does not operate in Québec, which is excluded from its eligible territories, and there are several US states it stays out of as well. Eligibility rules of this kind change without much notice, so check the operator's own terms at sign-up rather than trusting any list, ours included.
The minimum age in BC is 19.
What to check before signing up
Read the redemption terms first, not the promotions. How promotional currency converts to a prize, what the minimum redemption is, and how long verification takes are the things that determine whether the product is worth your time — and they are all in the terms rather than on the front page.
Live poker in BC
British Columbia's live scene is the stronger option for most players: River Rock in Richmond spreads hold'em and Omaha from 1/3 up to 5/10 with bad beat jackpots, and Elements Casino Surrey runs twelve tables in the Fraser Valley.
General information, not legal advice. Gambling and sweepstakes play should both stay entertainment.
