André Akkari
São Paulo, Brazil
André Akkari is the godfather of Brazilian poker. Born in São Paulo in 1974, he won his WSOP bracelet in 2011 in a $1,500 no-limit hold'em event for $675,117 — at the time the biggest moment in Brazilian poker history — and spent well over a decade as a Team PokerStars Pro, doing more than anyone to bring the game to a mainstream Brazilian audience. Away from the tables he co-founded the esports organisation FURIA. Akkari remains a fixture of the BSOP circuit and of Brazilian poker media.
