Poker in Belgium: licensed online rooms, VIAGE Brussels and the Belgian stars

Belgium is a strictly regulated market with a surprisingly big poker footprint. Online poker is legal only on rooms licensed by the Belgian Gaming Commission, which is why the offer is short but reliable; the minimum age for poker is 21, higher than for sports betting; and a country of eleven million has produced a Triple Crown winner, a two-time WSOP Main Event finalist and the current number one on the Belgian money list with almost $18 million. Is online poker legal in Belgium?

Yes, on licensed sites only. Belgium's Gaming Act requires every online operator to hold a licence from the Kansspelcommissie / Commission des jeux de hasard, tied to a land-based casino licence for casino games. Unlicensed sites are placed on a public blacklist and blocked, and playing on them is an offence for the player too, not just the operator — one of the few countries where that is the case. Licensed rooms verify your identity against the national register, connect to the EPIS self-exclusion system and enforce a default weekly deposit limit. Live poker in Belgium

Belgium's nine licensed casinos are where live poker happens, and the Grand Casino Brussels VIAGE on Boulevard Anspach is the centre of it, with daily cash games from €2/€4 and weekly tournaments; it has hosted WPT and WSOP Circuit festivals in the past.
